A funeral ceremony was held at the Rhein Energie Stadium for Christoph Daum, one of the symbols of both German and Turkish football, who died in Cologne on August 25 after suffering from lung cancer.
THERE WAS A HIGH PARTICIPATION FROM TURKEY
Many names from Turkish football, including Fenerbahçe Club President Ali Koç, technical director Yılmaz Vural, legendary footballers Volkan Demirel, Tanju Çolak, Tuncay Şanlı, Selçuk Şahin and Servet Yardımcı, attended the funeral ceremony in Cologne, Germany, for German coach Christoph Daum, who played for Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş and Bursaspor and passed away at the age of 70.
THE SONG “MY COUNTRY IS DIFFERENT” MADE ME EMOTIONAL
Emotional moments were experienced during the photos, videos and speeches about Daum’s old days. The orchestra, conducted by Turkish conductor and composer Betin Güneş, sang the song “Bir Başkadır benim memleketim”, which the Daum family requested to emphasize their Turkish friendship.
KOC AND SAKUL MADE A SPEECH
In addition to well-known figures in the German sports community, politicians also gave speeches at the ceremony. Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç and Beşiktaş General Secretary Kaan Şakul took the podium.
Ali Koç offered his condolences to the Daum family and said, “I wish you patience and strength during this difficult time. He was a great leader, a wonderful person who touched many hearts.”
Beşiktaş General Secretary Kaan Şakul said, “He was a wonderful person who touched many hearts on and especially off the field. Rest in peace Mr. Daum. We will miss you but never forget you.”
