The court sent a ‘fake’ Superintendent of Police (SP) named Russell Patwari, who was caught by the police with a stolen mobile phone in Hajiganj, Chandpur, to jail.

The police sent the arrested fake SP Russell to the court on Saturday (March 2) afternoon. Later the court ordered him to be sent to jail.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Hajiganj police station Mohammad Abdur Rashid has confirmed this information.

The arrested Russell Patwari is the son of Firoz Patwari of Char Bakila village of Chandpur Sadar Upazila.

According to the police, Russell introduced himself as SP last week at a salon on Hajiganj Thana Road. Then he ran away with the two mobile phones of the salon staff while they were busy with their work. After that, he sold the two phones to a shop in the mosque market of Hajiganj market for 15 thousand rupees.

Hriday, the victim salon owner, said that after the incident of theft, they tried to identify Russell Patwari by looking at the CCTV footage. Later, the locals saw him wandering around the market again and arrested him and handed him over to the police.

OC Abdur Rashid said Russell Patwari is a fraud. He was cheating in different parts of the country by using different names of the police. A few cases have been found against him in the fake SP identity of the police.
