Fake organizations have been opened in the name of National Consumer Protection Directorate. Which is called Bangladesh Consumer Rights Society. It also conducted mobile courts and extorted fines. The crowd arrested one of the organization and handed it over to the police.
This information was given in a press conference at the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection on Thursday (April 4).
Director General of the Directorate AHM Safiuzzaman said that various fake organizations have been formed in accordance with the name of the Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection. These institutions have taken registration from the Directorate of Joint Capital Companies and Firms. These organizations are doing a kind of extortion in the market in the name of campaign and mobile court.
Meanwhile, the organization Bangladesh Consumer Rights Society has created a network of extortion in the name of fines, which is a clear violation of the prevailing laws in the country. Due to these reasons, the image of the department and the government is getting damaged.
The director general of the directorate urged consumers and businessmen to report such extortion information to the directorate through the hotline (16121).
He said that earlier public notices have been issued several times in the name of these fake organizations. The registration of many such organizations was canceled last year. Still, information is available that the Bangladesh Consumer Rights Society has collected fees in the name of fines under sections 43 and 53 of the Consumer Rights Act 2009 with a fake team in Panchagarh district. The fine receipt went viral on social media.
