Prince Faisal bin Salman, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Fahd National Library, said: The library is moving to develop reliable methods for research, information, and communication during the coming period, so that the benefit will spread throughout the world.
This came during the inauguration today of the Copyright Forum entitled “Legislation and Institutional Integration,” which is organized by the library in cooperation with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property and the General Authority for Media Regulation, with the participation of more than 30 researchers and academics who are experts, specialists, and those interested in the field of copyright.
In his opening speech to the forum, Prince Faisal bin Salman stressed that the King Fahd National Library has carried the mission of documenting, protecting and disseminating the national heritage since its inception, and today it is renewing its basic mission by supporting the rights of authors and creators, which ensures the sustainability of innovation, the development of knowledge and the promotion of creativity.
He explained that the library, since its establishment as a public library in 1983 at the suggestion and support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz during his assumption of the duties of the Emirate of the Riyadh Region at that time, seeks to be one of the civilizational and cultural interfaces of Saudi Arabia.
The Chairman of the Library’s Board of Trustees indicated that the King Fahad National Library has become a cultural entity that seeks to enhance its role as a vital center for knowledge, culture and community service, and to contribute to achieving the cultural gains of its patrons and visitors from all over the world. It also seeks to extend bridges of cooperation and communication with universities and scientific and cultural institutions. And supporting the cultural movement system.
He stated that the library has been, for more than three decades, a cultural incubator that documents and preserves Saudi intellectual production and provides information services to beneficiaries. Today, it looks to the future to improve the experience of visitors and beneficiaries despite the major transformations in the level of research technologies, artificial intelligence and the challenges they pose.
The activities of the two-day forum began with 4 sessions and 4 themes related to institutional integration to promote and support copyright, the basics of copyright, the challenges facing the author in academic libraries, supporting copyright for people with disabilities to access libraries, Creative Commons and open sources.
The forum aims to raise awareness of the importance of copyright and the importance of applying national and international legislation to it, in addition to enhancing interaction and cooperation between relevant parties to achieve the goals of copyright protection, and exchanging knowledge between experts and specialists in the field of copyright. The forum also encourages scientific research and technical development in the same field. And the use of technology to enhance the application of relevant laws.
