After Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to Manipur, a video clip is being shared on social media with the claim that when he was on a visit to Manipur, people protested against him and shouted slogans of Rahul Gandhi ‘go back’. In the viral video clip, some people can be heard shouting this slogan.
Vishvas News investigated and found this claim to be false. The viral video clip is not related to Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to Manipur but is from Assam during the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’. Rahul Gandhi was in Assam in January as part of this yatra and faced this protest in Nagaon district.

Social media user ‘Naresh Kumar Mishra’ went viral Video id=’action_msg_1373’> Link) while sharing it, he wrote, “He was very fond of going to Manipur…???
Manipuri people drove Rahul Gandhi out of the market after he ran away from the press conference. Rahul Gandhi was on a tour to meet the people of Manipur, but the Manipuri people raised slogans of ‘Rahul Gandhi go back’. Seeing the protest against him, Rahul Gandhi left ‘Khatkat’.
Many other users on different social media platforms have shared this video clip with similar and identical claims.

Two videos have been used in the viral post. The first video is of Rahul Gandhi’s press conference. He held a press conference on January 8 during his Manipur visit and during this he ended the press conference by saying that I came here to give a clear and unambiguous message, but I do not wish to answer those questions whose aim is to divert the issues. I have given my statement.
In the second video clip in the viral post, some people can be seen protesting against Rahul Gandhi. On reverse image searching the key frames of the viral video, we found a video clip uploaded on news agency ANI’s x handle on January 21, 2024, in which a crowd can be seen chanting ‘Rahul Gandhi Go Back’.
That is, this video clip of protest against Rahul Gandhi is not from his Manipur visit but from Assam visit. It is worth noting that Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra‘ started on January 1 and ended on January 18. NDTV’s January 22 Report According to, “Congress leader Rahul Gandhi faced protest in Assam’s Nagaon district.”
This is also mentioned in many other reports. We contacted a Manipur-based freelance journalist and fact checker regarding the claim made with the viral video clip. He confirmed that no such protest took place during Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Manipur.
The user who shared the viral video with the fake claim is followed by around 4,000 people on Facebook.
