Fact Check: Video of murder in Meerut made viral with false communal claim

This video is being made viral on various social media platforms with the claim that Muslims killed a Hindu after a dispute near a swimming pool in Meerut.

Vishvas News investigated the viral post. It proved to be misleading. Investigation revealed that both the parties belonged to the same community. The person who was killed was named Arshad. Some people are making the Meerut incident viral with false communal claims.

Facebook user Radha Krishna Mishra uploaded a video on May 5 and claimed, “Hindus beware, see how a cold-blooded murder was committed. The Muslims standing nearby killed the Hindu. In Lohianagar area of ​​Meerut, UP, a father was murdered in front of the children. After a dispute near the swimming pool, the killer shot him at close range. A case has been registered against Mohd. Dawood, Mohd. Bilal, Mohd. Aslam and Danish, all are absconding at present. Trends have started coming in from UP…”

To find out the truth of the viral post, Vishwas News first extracted several key frames from the video. Then searched them through Google Lens tool. We found the video on Zee News website a news Some parts of the viral video were used in this news. The news said, “A young man was shot dead in public in Meerut. He had gone to take a dip in the swimming pool with his children. The entire incident of the live murder has been captured in CCTV. The video of which is going viral. It is being told that the deceased Arshad had a dispute with the accused two days ago.”

During the search, ETV Bharat’s website was also a news In this news published on 5th June, it was told, “A history sheeter was shot dead in broad daylight in Meerut on Tuesday night. The young man had gone to take a dip in the swimming pool with his children. The entire incident of the live murder was captured on CCTV. The case is of Lohianagar police station area. Let us tell you that the name of the young man who died is Arshad. He was a history sheeter of Nauchandi police station. A total of 18 cases are registered against Arshad. Accused Bilal is also facing a case of murder and attempt to murder. Late night, a case has been registered against Dawood, Bilal, Aslam and Danish.”

Vishwas News furthered the investigation by searching the Dainik Jagran edition of Meerut. We found news published on 5th and 6th June. It was reported that Arshad, who had gone to bathe with children in a swimming pool near Jurranpur Gate in Meerut, was shot dead. It is alleged that Bilal from Arshad’s locality reached there with his brother Dawood, Aslam and Danish and shot Arshad in the head with a gun.

Vishwas News furthered the investigation and contacted Meerut’s CO Kotwali Ashutosh Kumar. He informed that there is no communal angle in the incident. Both the parties belong to the same community. All of them have a criminal history.

At the end of the investigation, the user who posted the false communal post was investigated. It was found that 1320 people follow the account of Facebook user Radha Krishna Mishra. The user is a resident of Lucknow. The user is a lawyer by profession.

Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found the viral post to be misleading. Actually, a Muslim youth Arshad was murdered in Meerut. Some people are making the video of the incident viral by calling it the murder of a Hindu. Whereas both the parties were Muslims.
