Fact Check: Fake and imaginary news went viral against Rahul Gandhi

Vishvas News investigated the viral post. It was proved to be baseless.

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A newspaper cutting related to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is going viral. It is being claimed that the son of the former Prime Minister of the country was arrested in Boston for drugs. This alleged cutting is being made viral on social media by linking it to Rahul Gandhi.

Vishvas News investigated the viral post. It was proved baseless. This fictitious and objectionable news about Rahul Gandhi has been prepared through a website present on the internet.

Facebook user Anil Kumar Shrivastava In a post on 13 August, he wrote, “Yaar Rahul…….people are saying that when you were arrested by the American police at Boston airport, your girlfriend, the daughter of a Mexican drug mafia, was also caught with you and drugs and 60 thousand illegal dollars were also recovered from you. We are getting very angry at people after hearing these things about you. Yaar, now you should hold a press conference and tell the whole world that all this is a lie.”

A newspaper cutting was uploaded along with it. It was claimed that the son of a former Prime Minister was arrested. Rahul Gandhi’s name was written on the cutting.

Vishwas News first used Google Open Search Tool to investigate the post related to Rahul Gandhi. On searching here, we did not find any news that could confirm the viral claim.

Since the news agency AFP was mentioned in the clipping used in the viral post, we went to AFP’s website and searched. There too, we did not find any news that was related to the viral claim.

We did find the AFP fact check report. The viral clipping was investigated in this report published on 8 January 2020. It was told that the viral post was created through newspaper clipping generator website Fody.com. AFP’s fact check report Here Can be read.

In the next phase of the investigation, we scanned Fody.com. We logged in there. Here we got the option to write the name of the newspaper, date, heading and content. So far in the investigation, it has been proved that this was misused to create the viral news against Rahul Gandhi.

Vishvas News had contacted Congress Secretary and Media Coordinator Pranav Jha during the previous investigation. Giving information, he said, “In today’s era of information revolution, the truth can be easily found out. Anyone can easily check this news on the digital edition of The Boston Global newspaper on page 13 of 13 September 2001. But this news will not be found, because no such incident happened, so such news was not published. The question is, is this image fake? So the answer is 100 percent fake, because this is a digitally created fake image. The font and design also do not match the design of the original The Boston Global newspaper.”

At the end of the investigation, the user who posted the fake post was investigated. It was found that Anil Kumar Shrivastava had created this account in 2013. The user is a resident of UP.

Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found that the viral post related to Rahul Gandhi is fake. It has been prepared fictitiously. There is no truth in it.
