The video clip going viral with Rahul Gandhi’s statement of making “gold from potatoes” is altered and fake. New Delhi (Vishvas News). Before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, a video of Rahul Gandhi is going viral on social media, in which it is being claimed that during one of his public addresses, he allegedly said that he is making a machine with the help of which “Gold can be made from potatoes”.

Vishvas News found this claim to be false in its investigation. The viral video is an edited excerpt from Rahul Gandhi’s old program, in which Rahul Gandhi had actually not given the statement of making gold from potatoes, rather he had criticized Narendra Modi by calling it a statement. In the viral video clip, the part mentioning the Prime Minister has been removed, due to which the meaning of the statement is changing.

Instagram user ‘arunkchoudhary96’ shared the viral video (archive Link) has taken a jibe at Rahul Gandhi while sharing.

Many others on different platforms of social media users has shared this clip with identical and similar claims.

In the search, we found a video bulletin uploaded on the official YouTube handle of ABP News on 16 November 2017, in which it is told that Rahul Gandhi had not given the statement of making gold from potatoes, but he had described it as the statement of Narendra Modi. He was criticized.

In the video, Rahul Gandhi can be heard saying, “….I told the potato farmers that I will install such a machine that potatoes will enter from this side and gold will come out from that side. Put potatoes from this side and take out gold from that side. You will make so much money that you won’t know what to do with it. These are not my words, these are the words of Narendra Modi ji.”

During search, we found this video of Rahul Gandhi uploaded on his official YouTube channel. This video from November 13, 2017 is actually from his election speech in Patan, Gujarat. When heard from the frame of 17 minutes 50 seconds, it becomes clear that he had given the statement “gold from potatoes” while targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised the potato farmers that he would install such a machine that when potatoes are poured from one side, gold will start coming out from the other side. Rahul Gandhi clearly says that these are Narendra Modi’s words, not his.

In news search, we found the statement of Congress spokesperson Pawan Kheda from the official Facebook page of “Indian National Congress – BIHAR”, in which he termed the viral statement in the name of Rahul Gandhi as fake and said, “…you remember aloo se gold… Whose words were these? These were the words of Honorable Narendra Modi ji. Rahul Gandhi was repeating…in a rally in Gujarat. In a very planned manner…these people who stay awake for 18-18 hours, stay awake only to do this work.”

We contacted Uttar Pradesh Congress spokesperson Abhimanyu Tyagi regarding the viral video. Describing it as fake, he said, “With the elections approaching, the ruling party is nervous about Rahul Gandhi’s visit, hence they are resorting to such propaganda.”
