Facebook now allows videos to be viewed in full screen in vertical format

MADRID (Portaltic/EP).- Meta launched new video playback functions on Facebook, such as full screen viewing for videos in vertical format, the slider option to jump to the most interesting part of the video, or more recommendations relevant videos in the main ‘Feed’ and in the Video tab.

The company led by Mark Zuckerberg announced new video playback features with which it intends to promote the Facebook platform as “the home of all types of videos”, in addition to offering content creators “more opportunities to access additional audiences.”

One of these new features is the ability to view videos in full screen, either in portrait or landscape format. As explained by Meta, previously, depending on the length of the video or where it was being viewed, this content was displayed in a “Feed-type” player, that is, within the box of the usual publication.

However, with the new feature, when you play a video from anywhere in the Facebook app, it will open in full-screen, vertically oriented format automatically.

If it is a video in horizontal format, although it is initially displayed vertically, it can be changed to landscape format by pressing the ‘full screen’ icon. This is a new function with which Meta compares the video playback format to its other social network Instagram.

Following this line, Facebook has introduced new options to facilitate viewing videos, allowing users to skip playback to the part that interests them most, through the slider located at the bottom of the player.

In addition, controls have been implemented that allow you to rewind or advance playback by ten seconds, as well as pause the video.

Another point that Meta has highlighted is that it will offer improved recommendations on Facebook for videos of all lengths. As noted, they will be more relevant videos based on the users’ interests and will be displayed in both the main Feed tab and the Video tab.

As exemplified, the social network will recommend a video about inspiration for a quick daily makeup routine in ‘reel’ format, since it is shorter and lighter content. On the other hand, for a DIY home improvement video by experienced homeowners, you’ll go with the recommendation of a longer video tutorial.

As detailed in a statement on his blogthe new video playback features are now available in the Facebook app for both iOS and Android devices in the United States and Canada, and will roll out globally “in the coming months.”
