Meta Communications Head Andy Stone told X that the issue had been resolved. “We resolved this issue as soon as possible for everyone affected and we apologize for any inconvenience,” he wrote as quoted by the Independent, Wednesday (6/3/2024).
Hundreds of thousands of people accessed the Downdetector website, which tracks online outages, to report problems with Meta’s platforms, namely Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Threads.
More than 300,000 reports of outages on Facebook came in between around 3.20pm and 5pm, while Instagram users reported more than 120,000 outages on the site at the same time.
Although the issue has been resolved, X owner Elon Musk apparently joked about the glitch. He wrote on his social media platform, “If you are reading this post, it is because our servers are working.”
Facebook and Instagram owned and operated by Meta, which also owns Threads and WhatsApp among other products and services.
