This is 9 days ago, the girls of Bangladesh celebrated with the trophy of SAF U-19 Championship. The host team got the trophy after 10 days of sharing the title with India at the Bir Shresh Shahid Sepahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur on February 8.
Another girls’ tournament is going to start soon after the joy of Afeeda-Sagarikad’s title. This time, Bangladesh’s eyes are clear on the under-16 women’s championship. This four-team tournament will be held in Kathmandu from March 1 to 10.
Like the Under-19 Women’s SAF, the teams in this tournament are Bangladesh, India, Bhutan and hosts Nepal. At the end of the league based games, the top two teams in the points table will meet in the final. A team made up of mostly new girls is also showing promise. Team coach Saiful Bari Titu’s eyes are first on the final, then on the title.
Bangladesh team is going to Nepal on Wednesday morning. Earlier on Tuesday afternoon in a press conference at Bauffe Bhavan, the coach captain said about their preparation and goals.
Coach Saiful Bari announced the challenge with the new and inexperienced team, ‘to win the title, you have to take the challenge. Girls always play football with a challenge. So it is not a problem for them. There are a lot of new players in the team, who will be flying abroad for the first time. Lack of experience. But I think, the girls of my team are talented, they will win the challenge by fighting.’
The coach has worked with 30 footballers for this tournament. 7 people were excluded from there. There are 7 players in the team who are from Buffe camp. 6 people are taken from Bangladesh BKSP. The rest came through trials.
Captain Arpita Biswas said, ‘Our first match is against Nepal. This match is important. We have to go match by match. I hope I can do something good.’
Bangladesh’s first match is against Nepal on March 2. Then the games against India and Bhutan on March 5 and 8 respectively. The final of the tournament is March 10.
