An emergency was recorded this Monday, February 19 in the kilometer 54.5 of the old route that leads from the municipality of Palín to the departmental capital of Escuintla. Volunteer firefighters worked at the scene because a extra-urban bus with fire.
For reasons that have not yet been established, the pilot of the transport unit lost control of the steering wheel and this led to it colliding with a public lighting pole. After the collision, the vehicle caught fire, which is why the support of Volunteer Firefighters was requested to deal with the situation.
“Calls were received to the institution’s line to notify regarding a bus that was being consumed by fire, for which units and elements of the 14th company were transferred to the place,” said Víctor Gómez, spokesperson for the institution.

He added that, upon observing the magnitude of the emergency, the officer in charge of the unit requested the support of the 60th company to carry out the work.
“Three firefighting trucks and two supply trucks worked at the site to put out the fire that consumed the collective passenger transport and prevent it from spreading into the dry brush in the area,” the spokesperson said.
No injuries were reported due to this event, only material damage.

Thousands of gallons of water to put out fire
The relief institution reported that 2,300 gallons of water were used to put out the fire on the bus and prevent it from spreading to surrounding areas.
The lifeguards proceeded to carry out a review to verify possible sources of fire and remained at the scene as a precaution.
