- Salvador Allende Foundation, Republica 475, Santiago.
- Tuesday to Friday – 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Until december 31.
The Salvador Allende Foundation presents the exhibition “Tencha, epistolary memory and solidarity in exile”, an intimate look at the life and legacy of an emblematic figure in the political and cultural history of Chile.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by Senator and founder of the FSA Isabel Allende, Carmen Paz Allende, former ministers Sergio Bitar, Jorge Arrate, Undersecretary for Human Rights Xavier Altamirano, Senator José Miguel Insulza, President of the Socialist Party Paulina Vodanovic, family members, the Spanish ambassador Rafael Garanzo and members of the FSA board of directors.
Hortensia Bussi, affectionately known as “Tencha,” was a crucial figure in the Chilean and Latin American political landscape. As the wife of President Salvador Allende, her role transcended the boundaries of convention, becoming a symbol of resistance and commitment to the ideals of social justice and democracy, following the civil-military coup against the constitutional government in 1973.
“Tencha made a strong call for unity in exile, and generated international links that are exposed in this issue,” says Marcia Tambutti Allende, granddaughter of Hortensia Bussi and President of the FSA Board of Directors.
The exhibition, curated by Pamela Ipinza, offers visitors the opportunity to explore the life of this remarkable woman through a unique collection of letters, photographs, historical documents, personal objects and testimonies from those who knew her closely. From her youth, to her time as First Lady of Chile, but above all, the exhibition portrays Hortensia Bussi’s strength, dignity and commitment to the cause of the Chilean people, especially in her struggle in exile.
“This exhibition is a tribute to the life and legacy of an exceptional woman who left an indelible mark on the history of Chile,” said Marcela Ahumada, director of the Salvador Allende Foundation. “We hope that this exhibition will inspire present and future generations to continue fighting for a more just and equitable world.”
The Salvador Allende Foundation is an institution dedicated to preserving, disseminating and promoting the material and immaterial legacy of President Salvador Allende and his contribution to the political and social history of Chile. Through various cultural, educational and research activities, the Foundation seeks to keep alive the memory of President Allende and his ideals of justice, equality and democracy.
