Exciting statements by Dabaiba about lifting fuel subsidies

Head of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, said that lifting subsidies is a national project and citizens must choose between money or fuel coupons.

Al-Dabaiba’s most prominent statements during the activities of the Libya Shop Mukhtars Forum:

  • Marketing, falsification, and exploitation of words are being used in the media by those who do not want stability in Libya regarding the fuel subsidy issue.
  • Every year we lose 60 billion dinars in this support, equivalent to half of Libya’s budget.
  • The 60 billion does not go to the Libyans, but it goes to thieves and smugglers, and what reaches the Libyans is very little.
  • This dilemma must be opened for discussion and a solution must be reached.
  • We arrested a young man working in fuel smuggling and he confessed that he receives a million dinars daily.
  • One of those attending my meeting with the mayors of the south told me that he saw more than 50 fuel trucks traveling in one column to the smuggling area.
  • I will not make a decision regarding support unless I consult all Libyans and present the matter to them in detail in numbers.
  • Electricity consumes no less than 40% of this support, and with the stability of the network, we decided that we would not come close to the support allocated to it.
  • We provide support to the citizen in the south, and oil is smuggled from under their feet and its price becomes 7 and 8 dinars.
  • It was proposed to provide coupons of a specific value to each family to obtain a specific liter of gasoline or a specific financial value in exchange for not using fuel subsidies.
  • We will support truck drivers and bakeries so that commodity prices are not affected by the lifting of fuel subsidies.
  • Smugglers earn billions and form gangs and battalions of Africans to protect their smuggling work.
  • We will put these alternatives to a public referendum to listen to the Libyans, now that there are areas that we cannot enter from these gangs.
