Later, it was reported that Israel decided not to send anyone to continue talks in Cairo after Hamas refused to include a list of surviving hostages.
Major General (Ret.) Israel Ziv, former head of the Israel Defense Forces Operations Directorate, this morning spoke with Udi Segal and Tal Shalev in 103FM and discuss this issue.
“I think it was a mistake not to send an Israeli delegation because not sending a delegation is basically a kind of protest or objection to something, and it’s not clear to me who we are protesting to,” Ziv said at the start of the conversation.
“This is not the first time we have done this. If we do it to fight Hamas, we only strengthen their power. Israel behaves like a contradictory child; we just give them more power. If it’s against the mediator trying to help, eventually they’ll get tired of this. This is our problem,” he explained.
“No one cared about our internal explanation of why we were right. Israel didn’t raise this issue (hostage list) at first, so even if it was true, don’t bring it up after the incident happened,” he said, as quoted Jerusalem PostThursday (7/3/2024).
“Secondly, it is much more important for us to show goodwill towards those who continue to make efforts on our behalf, regardless of whether there will be a deal or not. Israel needs to show, for the sake of its public opinion, that it is doing everything for this to happen,” he continued. the retired Zionist general.
“You’re asking me is it going to happen? I’m more skeptical. I’m always skeptical until something happens because I’m not sure who to give the answer to on the other hand it actually works.”
In the conversation, Ziv outlined his doctrine regarding the ongoing fighting in the Gaza Strip.
