Evidence of 3 Meter Tall Monkeys Exist in Indonesia

BANJARMASIN – Social media was abuzz with a video showing a figure giant orangutan in East Kalimantan. In the video, the orangutan is seen standing in front of a resident’s house and its height is almost the same as the roof of the house.

The East Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) is hunting for a giant orangutan that is claimed to be as tall as a house.

Previously, a video footage that went viral on social media showed an orangutan looking for food in a tree. It happened in an area inhabited by people believed to be in East Kalimantan.

The head of the regional BKSDA, Ari Wibawanto, said that his party was still tracking the animal.

According to him, social media users who started uploading videos of the giant orangutan have deleted the posts, making it difficult for them to hunt the animal.

But we are still looking for a location that matches the appearance in the video, he said.

The discovery of traces of Gigantopithecus, the ape closest to the mythological creature King Kong in Indonesia, has made scientists curious to enter the Indonesian forest.

Most recently, Malaysian primatologists have discovered a mysterious monkey that is newly known on the island of Borneo. Based on preliminary research, the mysterious monkey is likely a hybrid of the proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) and the silvery langur (Trachypithecus cristatus).

The mystery monkey was first spotted in social media photos as a juvenile in 2017. Then in 2020, more recent photos revealed that the monkey was an adult female and may have had babies of her own.
