Commenting that women’s rights have been confirmed after Awami League came to power, he said, ‘If we proceed with a specific action plan, we have proved that the desired goal can be achieved. At present, Bangladesh has occupied a seat of prestige worldwide. Today’s Bangladesh has gone through so many ups and downs. This progress of the country will continue.

On this day at 12 noon, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the party’s Parliamentary Nomination Board meeting at Ganabhaban. It is said that Awami League’s candidate for the reserved women’s seat has been finalized in this meeting.

The ruling Awami League is getting 48 of the 50 reserved seats for women in the 12th National Parliament. 1 thousand 549 people bought the form to get nomination of the party in these constituencies. As a result, the number of candidates for each seat is 32.

Awami League started selling party nomination forms for the reserved women’s seats from February 6, which ended on Thursday (February 8) at 4 pm. Later, in a press briefing, the general secretary of the party, Obaidul Quader, said that the party’s income was Tk 7 crore 74 lakh 50 thousand by selling the nomination form of the Awami League for the reserved women’s seats in the parliament.

Regarding the finalization of Awami League’s candidate for the reserved women’s seat, the party’s general secretary Obaidul Quader said that the meeting of the party’s parliamentary nomination board will be held on February 14. Awami League president Sheikh Hasina will preside there. Candidates will be finalized in that meeting.

Among those who collected the forms on three days are office-bearers of Awami League, Mahila Awami League, Jubo Mahila League, Swachhasebak League, Krishak League and former leaders of Chhatra League. Last Tuesday (February 6) on the question of distribution of reserved 50 women’s seats, the EC Secretary said that independent candidates have given Awami League the power to take their share of women candidates. Jatiya Party will single-handedly elect candidates for their 11 constituencies. As a result, according to the law, the Jatiya Party will get two seats and the Awami League independent and their 14-party alliance will get 48 seats. As per this division, further process including filing and selection of nomination papers will be undertaken.

According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission (EC), the date for submission of nomination papers for the election of reserved women’s seats in the 12th Parliament is Sunday, February 18 from 9 am to 4 pm. Nomination papers will be selected on February 19 and 20. The appeal was filed on February 22 and the appeal will be disposed of on February 24. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 25th February, allotment of symbols is 27th February and polling will be held on 14th March.
