Facing poverty and social exclusion 1 in 4 Greeks, with new evidence demonstrating the dire situation the country has fallen into with the policies of the Mitsotakis government.
In particular, according to data published by Eurostat, in 2023, 94.6 million people in the EU (21% of the population) were at risk of poverty or social exclusion.
This means that these people lived in households facing at least one of three risks: poverty, severe material and social deprivation and/or living in a household with very low work intensity. The number of these people decreased slightly in 2023 compared to 2022 (95.3 million, 22% of the population).
The percentages of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion differed between EU countries in 2023. higher prices were mentioned in Romania (32%), Bulgaria (30%), Spain (27%) and Greece (26%).
On the other hand, the lower rates recorded in the Czech Republic (12%), Slovenia (14%), Finland and Poland (both 16%).
The data found that women, young adults aged 18-24, people with low levels of education and the unemployed were, on average, more likely to be at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2023 than other groups within the population EU.
Key findings:
