Western equine encephalitis (WEE) has been detected in a human in Argentina. WHO is already aware of the situation.

It turned out that the infected person works in the village. The patient developed symptoms such as headache, myalgia, dizziness, confusion and sudden onset of fever. The patient was taken to a medical facility requiring resuscitation and was on artificial respiration for 12 days. He was discharged home on December 20. It was reported that he is currently under outpatient observation.

The statement of the WHO says that the National Coordinator of International Health Regulations of Argentina conveyed this information to them on December 20.

WEE is a rare mosquito-borne viral disease of horses and humans. According to WHO, most human infections are linked to outbreaks among birds or horses.
