A sentencing judge denied Daneidy Barrera Rojasknown publicly as ‘EpaColombia’the request for termination of his sentence of 5 years and 2 months in prisona procedure that had been presented based on the Law 2477 of 2025regulations that strengthened the restorative justice approach in the country.
With this decision, the businesswoman must continue deprived of libertyserving the sentence that was ratified by the Supreme Court of Justice in 2025after being found responsible for the events that occurred during the social outbreak of 2019.
Judge refused to even study the request
According to what is known, the judge not only denied the extinction of the sentence, but also refused to study the petition in depthwhich closes, for now, this new legal avenue attempted by Barrera’s defense.
The request was based on Law 2477 of 2025, which introduced reforms to decongest judicial offices, streamline processes and promote restorative justice mechanisms. However, the judicial office considered that the ‘Epa Colombia’ case did not meet the requirements to access that benefit.
A new judicial setback
This failure represents another failure in multiple legal attempts that Epa Colombia has promoted to recover their freedom. In the past, the businesswoman has presented guardianship and other resourcessome of them arguing their status as mother of a minorwithout having obtained favorable results so far.
Despite this new setback, his defense don’t give up. Recently, Barrera’s lawyers asked the Constitutional Court review a guardianship in which they question the legality of the sentencespecifically for the crime of instigation to commit a crime for terrorist purposesone of the most controversial points of the process.
The case that marked his conviction
The events for which the woman from Bogotá was convicted occurred in November 2019in the midst of the social outbreak. In this context, she recorded and spread on social networks a video in which she appears vandalizing with a hammer the doors and registers of the Molinos station of TransMileniosouth of Bogotá.
The audiovisual material quickly went viral and became one of the central pieces of evidence in the judicial process that, years later, led to his conviction and imprisonment.
