ENI discovers oil well with more than 150 million barrels

A new oil well, with an estimated reserve of between 150 and 250 million barrels of light oil, with high additional potential, was discovered in Block 15/6 offshore Angola, announced the National Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) and the Italian multinational ENI.

According to Agência Angola Press, the well that led to the discovery was drilled at the Ndungu exploration prospect, in the deep waters of Angola, according to a note from ANPG that Angop had access to this Tuesday.

The aforementioned Ndungu-1 NFW well is located approximately 130 kilometers offshore, approximately 10 kilometers northwest of the N’goma FPSO – west pole 9 and approximately 2 km from the Mpungi production field (FPSO is the vessel for exploration, storage of oil and/or natural gas and flow of production).

Drilled by the Poseidon drill ship, the well is located in a water depth of 1,076 meters and reached a total depth of 4,050 meters.

Data acquired at the Ndungu-1 well indicates a production capacity, for the well flow, of more than 10 thousand barrels of oil per day.

According to ANPG, the same well represents the first important oil discovery made in Angola within an existing development area.

This also confirms the importance of the recent legislative opportunity, with the publication of Presidential Legislative Decree nº 5718, of May 18, 2018, which establishes the legal regime on research activities within development areas.
