Eng. Hussein Arnous, Prime Minister, heads the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic participating in the World Climate Action Summit, which will be held on the first and second of next December in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as part of the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
The Syrian delegation includes Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Bassam Sabbagh, Assistant Minister of Water Resources for Water Strategy Affairs, Eng. Jihad Kanaan, and a number of stakeholders and specialists in the fields of environment, water and agricultural research.
During its participation in the summit sessions, the Syrian delegation will present a number of working papers and visions related to confronting environmental challenges and the need to intensify efforts and international cooperation to confront climate change and the challenges resulting from its effects on agricultural production, water and livelihoods.
On the sidelines of the summit, the delegation will meet with a number of participating delegations to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the field of the environment and confronting climate change.
Syria participates in the global effort to protect the global environment, in addition to the intensive efforts made at the national level to protect the environment, despite all the difficulties and challenges resulting from the repercussions of the war on Syria. Syria’s participation in the Climate Conference (COP-28) also reflects its commitment to all international environmental agreements and treaties that it has ratified, in the belief that the environment is the responsibility of all countries.
