The country’s military government has announced mandatory military service for all young people in Myanmar. As unrest continues in the country, the government announced the implementation of this law on Saturday. On Sunday (February 11), the British media BBC reported the news.
The declaration states that all men between the ages of 18 and 35 and women between the ages of 18 and 27 must serve two years under the military. No further details have been released. However, in a statement, the junta said, the Ministry of Defense will soon publish the necessary by-laws, procedures, declarations, notifications and instructions.
The Conscription Act was enacted in 2010. But so far it has not been implemented.
According to the law, the term of conscription can be extended up to five years in case of state emergency. Those who ignore the summons will instead be sentenced to the same term of imprisonment.
In February 2021, the military seized power from the civilian government in a coup.
But recently the army has been humiliatingly defeated in one-on-one battles with ethnic militias and counter-insurgency fighters.

The military-appointed president, former General Myint Soe, had previously warned that Myanmar would fall apart if the war was not brought under control.
After coming to power in 2021, the junta government declared a state of emergency in the country. Recently it was extended for another six months.
Before transitioning to democracy in 2011, Myanmar was under military rule for nearly 50 years. Then again in 2021 they took control of the country. Since then the country has been experiencing various conflicts and conflicts. More than 1 million people have been displaced. Thousands more were killed.
