End of the second quarter in the three orders of Education in #Benin: Ministers KARIMOU, CHABI and YAYI LADEKAN take stock

At the beginning of the week, the three (03) Ministers in charge of Education in Benin co-hosted a press conference. It was Tuesday April 16, 2024 at the administrative towers party hall in Cotonou.

Facing the Media professionals, it was a question of Salimane KARIMOU in charge of Nursery and Primary Education (MEMP), Kouaro Yves CHABI, secondary, technical education and vocational training (MESTFP) and Eléonore YAYI LADEKAN in charge of Education Higher education and scientific research to take stock of the education system based on the three key indicators of retention, quality and management.

Update on Nursery and Primary Education

By opening the speeches, the Minister of Maternal and Primary Education (MEMP), Salimane KARIMOU reassured of the good progress of the preparations for the CEP 2024 with the use of the Éduc-Master platform.
According to him, 256,968 candidates are registered compared to 241,564 in 2023, with an increase of 6%. For Minister KARIMOU, this increase is the result of measures taken by the Government within the framework of monitoring schoolchildren.

The professional elections led by ministerial electoral committees, the situation of Aspirants for the teaching profession (AME) and many other subjects, notably the transition in the management of school canteens, were addressed by Minister Salimane KARIMOU. “It is not for nothing that Benin is recognized as a champion in the field globally,” declared Salimane KARIMOU, head of Ministers in charge of Education.

The situation of AMEs and other secondary projects

In his speech, Kouaro Yves CHABI, Minister of Secondary, Technical Education and Vocational Training (MESTFP) focused on the situation of Aspirants for Teaching Professions (AME).
In addition to the special measures offered to them by the Government a few weeks ago, there was also talk of the reintegration of the 175 AMEs, immediately reintegrated into the database and given priority in redeployments according to needs on the ground. For Minister CHABI, the repayment of AME is on track according to the criteria and possibilities in force.

On the question of exam preparations, the Minister of Secondary, Technical and Vocational Training (MESTFP) announced that registrations have been completed thanks to the advantages of dematerialization. And when we take stock, there are 124,872 registered, including 62,703 girls compared to 121,844 registered last year. This shows an increase of 2.49%.

Higher education and scientific research

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research has lifted the veil on the Government’s actions in the areas of infrastructure (university residences), Catering, Transport, Scholarships, Allowances and teaching staff.

« The teacher deficit is now managed thanks to the national file of more than 3,000 candidates for higher education. It should be noted that it is after recruitment that they become formal assistants following a very rigorous process. As proof, there are 1,400 applicants only after preliminary studies, despite the flexibility aimed at quickly meeting needs…” said Minister YAYI LADEKAN

After answering questions and providing explanations to the journalists’ various concerns, the three (03) Ministers made another meeting for the update of the last quarter of the 2023-2024 school and university year.
