Fans of the ZDF cult series “Der Bergdoktor” can look forward to: The popular TV show starts on Thursday 4 January with a new season. But there is also bad news. In the 17th season it’s time to say goodbye to three stars of the series.
Dramatic conclusion of season 16
The sixteenth season ended in mid-February with a dramatic episode: the fronts between the brothers Hans (Heiko Ruprecht) and Martin Gruber (Hans Sigl) worsened. Martin is determined to leave Ellmau for New York. This particularly affects his mother Lisbeth (Monika Baumgartner). After saying goodbye to Martin, she has a nervous breakdown and has to be taken to hospital. What happens to Lisbeth next is unclear. Now the uncertainty is over.

Lisbeth will not die a serial death. We will also see her in season 17. Lilli Gruber, played by Ronja Forcher, and Susanne Dreiseitl (Natalie O’Hara) will also remain in the cult series. Bergdoktor enthusiasts from the Lake Constance region can also breathe a sigh of relief. Mark Keller, originally from Überlingen, continues to play the role of Dr. Alexander Kahnweiler.
Three stars leave the cult series
The fans, however, must say goodbye definitively to Franziska Hochstetter (Simone Hanselmann). She was there from season 11. In the 16th season she appeared in two episodes, but in the 17th season Franziska Hochstetter will no longer appear.

In the future, fans will also have to do without two other figures. This was confirmed by broadcaster ZDF to the news portal “t-online”. For Timon Ballenberger and therefore for his character Robert Schwarz the chapter ends with “The Mountain Doctor”. The 31-year-old will no longer be part of the ensemble in the new season. He had already left the series halfway through the sixteenth season. It’s also over for Henriette Schmidt: after two seasons, she takes over her role as Dr. Christina Tippner from the series Doctor.
