Enrique López Arce, an expert in employment, defended the Albirrojo holiday last Friday, after the Paraguayan soccer team was qualified for the World Cup next year.
The decision of President Santiago Peña, although it generated citizen applause, also aroused some criticism, especially from the business sector, allegedly because of the damage to the economy.
However, at 1020 AM, López Arce said the balance was positive.
Although he acknowledged that, through our labor legislation a “double payment” is established on holidays, generating an extra cost for the employer, he said that the commercial movement was so intense, that several sectors ended up being benefited and generated benefits records.
“I was talking with supermarkets and all the premises were full; also the small neighborhood stores had more sales, restaurants and even the informal commercial sector, with the sale of objects from the albirroja, also the deliverys, the logistics. When we put in a balance, I think the balance is more positive towards the holiday,” said López Arce.
