Emmanuel Karalis / European runner-up with an individual record (video)

Shocking Emmanuel Karalis who won the silver medal in the European Open Track and Field Championship by making 5.87m and a new personal record

Another great success of Greek athletics at the European Championships in Rome, as Emmanuel Karalis won the silver medal in the pole vault.

The 24-year-old champion performed amazingly and achieved a personal record of 5.87m. he took second place, behind the uncontested Armand Duplantis (5.92m and continuing his efforts). The bronze medal was won by Sasma the Turk with 5.82m.

The “bronze” in the 2024 World Indoors, started his race very well, crossing first in 5.50m having previously left 5.35m. Then, he entered 5.65 to pass it with the first while he did the same at 5.75m, which in the end was not as decisive as we expected.

At 5.82m, Karalis needed two attempts to clear it and then the bar rose to 5.87m, a height he had never cleared before as his record was 5.86m. “Manolo” made an amazing jump, cleared 5.87m with the first and set a new personal record, to embrace the medal. Then, Zernickel, Sasma and Kole, who were also claiming a place on the podium, threw 5.87m three times and thus Karalis secured the silver and was left competing alone with Duplantis.

The bar went up to 5.92m, where Karalis made an invalid jump and then let it go, to go up to 5.97m in two attempts. He voids the first, he did not go up for the jump, and raises the bar to 6.02m. For the first time in his career, he attempted a 6-meter jump in competition. The jump was invalid.
