The inhabitants of the rural area of ​​the municipality of Manaure Balcón del Cesar are experiencing a difficult situation, with the arrival of the winter wave. A flood in the Manaure River has caused an emergency in the town of Sabana de León and surrounding areas, which is why the mayor of that town, Henry Oñate, declared a state of emergency to address the effects.

The most recent downpour, lasting more than eight hours, in the upper part of the Serranía del Perijá, caused the tributary to rise, dragging large trees and rocks that destroyed two intakes of the aqueducts of the municipality and the district of Sabanas de León.

Due to this situation, more than fourteen thousand inhabitants do not have water service, an emergency that is being attended to by the authorities with the support of relief agencies.

In this regard, the mayor of Manaure, Henry Oñate, stated that the Municipal and Departmental Emergency Committee was convened to define the actions that will be taken in favor of the communities affected by the rains, even more so, when the forecasts are heavy downpours for the town.

He added that the rains have also generated landslides and therefore, there are many blocked roads without access to the rural area of ​​the municipality, thus affecting the transportation of crops and the transit of citizens.

Alfonso Reyes, head of the Risk Management Office in Manaure, reiterated that the news was already reported to the Departmental Office to take the respective measures in response to the declaration of emergency in the municipality.

A commission visited the affected area to take stock and request the departmental authorities for the necessary help, since the municipality is without drinking water service due to the damage to the intake.

Reyes also reported that in Manaure the landslides caused road damage in sectors such as Sabana Rubia, Pie del Cielo and other sectors of the rural area, where farmers launch an SOS to clear the roads and be able to harvest the coffee crops.

In its latest technical bulletin, the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies, Ideam, places the municipalities of Aguachica, Agustín Codazzi, Becerril, Chimichagua, Chiriguaná, Curumaní, La Gloria, La Jagua de Ibirico on red alert for landslides. , La Paz, Manaure Balcón Del Cesar, Pailitas, Pelaya, Pueblo Bello, Río De Oro, San Alberto, San Martín and Valledupar.

El Copey, González, San Diego and Tamalameque are on orange alert; while Bosconia is located in yellow.
