The embassy further emphasized that these individuals would face a five-year ban on returning to the United States. They urged others not to take the risk and instead opt for safe and legal means of travel.

Roxana Maldonado describes her current situation as a nightmare after her husband, and father of her newborn baby, was deported by US immigration authorities this week.
Reinier Gutiérrez is one of the 36 Cuban citizens who arrived in Cuba on a deportation flight from Miami on Thursday. He had arrived at the southern border of the United States in 2020 and was detained during an immigration appointment in May.
“Your son is here, his whole life is here,” says Maldonado, pleading for her husband’s return.
Their youngest child was born just three months ago, and the couple also has an older daughter.
Maldonado previously reported that on May 11, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detained her 30-year-old husband at a center in Miramar, Broward County.
At that time, their lawyer, Jesús Novo from the Gallardo Law firm, stated that it was unusual for someone with a deportation order to be granted parole, which would have made them eligible for the Cuban adjustment law.
During the residency process, ICE agents discovered the pending deportation order.
