Elon Musk’s Neuralink announces success with chip placed on second test patient

MEXICO CITY (apro).- On August 21, Neuralink posted on its X account the progress they have made with their second participant. “Initial progress with our second participant.”

According to the report, Alex, the second participant in the study, received his Neuralink implant through surgery performed at the Barrow Neurological Institute.

Alex was discharged the next day and recovered well. The tests he has done with the implant have included playing video games and learning how to use computers to create 3D objects.

This, according to the company, marks a significant step towards providing a high-performance interface that improves control of digital devices for people with quadriplegia, allowing them to regain their autonomy.

People can check the blog where they post updates about the second participant’s experience and thus verify that the implant is safe in daily life.

Once the implant was connected, it took Alex less than 5 minutes to control the cursor with his mind and within hours, he surpassed the maximum speed and accuracy he had achieved with other assistive technology.

Elon Musk’s Neuralink is looking to create a brain interface to restore autonomy to people with diseases that prevent them from being independent. The company is testing patients with quadriplegia to participate in clinical trials to develop its project.
