Emmanuel Macron has accepted the resignation of Elisabeth Borne and her government, as he announced on X on Monday evening, saluting the work of the resigning prime minister. “You have achieved our project with the courage, commitment and determination of women of state. Thank you with all my heart”, he reads.
In her resignation letter delivered to Emmanuel Macron and seen by AFP, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne assessed on Monday that it is “more necessary than ever to carry forward the reforms”.
“As I must submit the resignation of my government, I wanted to tell you how passionate I am about this mission, guided by the constant concern, which we share, to obtain rapid and tangible results for our fellow citizens.”, wrote Ms. Borne, noting the “will ” of the Head of State to “appoint a new Prime Minister”.
Borne, who arrived at the Elysée around 6pm for a meeting with the president, had been in office since May 2022. Her Education Minister, Gabriel Attal, would be in pole position to replace her, according to several sources in the executive. The president himself will reveal his intentions in an enigmatic “meeting with the nation” announced in January.
“Apart from the financial texts, we have been able to build project majorities in the spirit of overcoming your election in 2017”, underlines Borne, who had to deal for twenty months with the relative majority in the Assembly resulting from the legislative elections of June 2022 .
Borne also said she was “proud that France now has complete and solid ecological planning”, presented last September.
