A de-escalation of just 1.57% for consumers in the last month, while the average wholesale energy price fell 11% and compared to January 35.38%
Although last month saw the lowest wholesale electricity price (day-ahead market – DAM) in nearly three years, May’s household bills do not “deflate” accordingly, when history has shown that instead increases are passed on immediately and with intensity.
According to the first data (based on the May tariffs posted on Thursday by the Regulatory Authority) in the green-special tariff, instituted by the government of N.D. and particularly highlighted by her, there are reductions in most products, but there are also some increases. Based on the release of 15 final prices from 13 companies, the May average price is 10.99 cents/kWh, compared to 11.17 cents/kWh in April, which translates into a slight decrease of 1.57%. This small de-escalation is not consistent with the average wholesale price (day-ahead market-DAM) of electricity in April at 6 cents/kWh, compared to 6.754 cents in March, i.e. reduced by 11%, while compared to January (average price 9.3 minutes) the reduction amounts to 35.38%.
The prices
Curiously the prices on the green tariff range from 9.5 cents to 16.5 cents/kWh, while last month the corresponding price range was at lower levels, as it was between 9 and 14.8 cents (and in March between 8.18 and 13.9 minutes). The reductions concern nine prices, starting from 1.22% and reaching up to 12.43%. Increases are seen in five products, ranging from 3.3% to 15%, while one product’s price remained unchanged.
At the same time, as in the previous months, also in May there are reclassifications regarding the position of each company’s plan from the cheapest to the most expensive tariff, confirming that any competition is for the majority of a month’s duration. However, for the first time the two cheapest companies of April remain in the same ranking in May.
The lowest “green” kilowatt-hour comes from ELLINOIL, at 9.5 minutes (however, with an increase of 4.85% compared to April, when it was 9.06 minutes, while in March it was significantly lower, at 8.182 minutes). The top five with the lowest prices are completed by Volterra (with 9.9 minutes, unchanged compared to April), Elpedison (with 9.968 minutes, reduced by 9.42% compared to April), Solar Energy (with 10.085 minutes, reduced by 4.49% compared to April) and Heron (with 10.118 minutes, reduced by 12.43% compared to April).
The market leader PPC is among the most expensive companies (with 10.656 minutes to 500 kilowatt hours of consumption, although reduced by 2.39% compared to April), while the clause (fluctuation mechanism) has been activated downwards for the third consecutive time month. The discount on the basic price “returned” to 10% (from 15% in April, 10% in March and 20% in the two months of January-February). In this tariff category, PPC is the only one that offers a reduced night tariff (7.866 cents/kWh).
Fixed assets generally remain elevated and are between 3.50 and 5 euros per month.
It is worth noting that although the blue-fixed tariffs are kept at higher levels compared to the rest of the tariffs, the two most economical ones are also cheaper than those of the special tariff, as they are 8.8 cents (Volton) and 8.9 cents ( Elpedison).
