Electricity bills / How March prices will move

There is already talk of setting the kilowatt-hour price below 10 or even 9 cents in the floating tariffs, in the special-green and yellow.

Close to the levels of the first half of 2021, the average wholesale price of electricity in February is back for the first time in three years, and it will be very interesting to see how this big de-escalation will be reflected in the new colorful tariffs in March.

Specifically, the average wholesale price (clearing market – TEA) closes in February at 73.61 euros per megawatt hour, against 93.02 euros in January, while in the corresponding period last year it was at 156.24 euros. So, for example, if one of the cheapest tariffs in February was at 11 cents, then it was below the January wholesale average by almost 17 cents, so by analogy the corresponding March tariff should be close to 9 cents/kWh .

There is already talk of setting the kilowatt-hour price below 10 or even 9 cents in the floating tariffs, in the special-green and yellow. It is worth noting that the famous fluctuation mechanism (otherwise clause) applies to the floating ones, a component of which are the lower and upper limits (Ld and Lu) of activation of decrease or increase respectively. With an average February TEA at 73.61 euros, in the event that the lower limit is from 75 euros/megawatt hour and above, then there should be a reduction. It also remains to be seen how the discounts given by suppliers in the first two months of the year (eg, 20%) will shape up. Specifically, for the special-green tariff, we remind you that a base price is foreseen that remains stable for at least 6 months, but which in January was set at high levels, as the average wholesale price of the previous two months exceeded 100 euros/megawatt hour. However, the discounts as well as the fixed charge (also increased in most cases) can be changed every month. As far as the fixed-blue tariffs are concerned, which can now be of six-month, eight-month or twelve-month duration, they remain more expensive than the floating ones, especially if you take into account their very high fixed charges (as much as 9.9 euros per month!).
