Electrical short circuit in girl’s heart repaired with non-surgical intervention

CHENNAI: Kauvery Hospital successfully treated a 6-year-old girl’s heart disease without resorting to surgery. The young patient, who was suffering from congenital heart disease since birth, was diagnosed with an extra plexus known as an accessory pathway within her heart. She was experiencing palpitations and heart failure due to tachycardia (fast heart rate) caused by the fibre. She had previously undergone surgery to treat her condition, although the symptoms did not subside. Leading the charge were consultants at Cauvery Hospital Alwarpet and Clinical Lead Cardiac Electrophysiology was conducted by Dr. Deep Chand Raja along with his expert medical team.
Using advanced techniques such as cardiac EPS RFA (electrophysiology studies and radio frequency ablation), the team identified and corrected the heartbeat caused by the accessory pathway, without the need for surgical intervention. RF ablation procedure performed under general anesthesia It lasted approximately 4 hours. Through meticulous precision and the use of cutting-edge technologies such as 3D navigation system and intracardiac echo, the medical team was able to locate and treat the root cause of the palpitations, ensuring a rapid and effective solution. Following the successful procedure, the young patient was rapidly taken off the ventilator and transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).
Remarkably, he was discharged the very next day, marking an important milestone in his recovery journey.Dr. Underscoring the importance of specialized care for pediatric patients with congenital heart defects, Deep Chand Raja said, “About 25% of infants born with heart defects may have excess fiber as we have addressed in this case. With the advancement in medical technology and the unwavering dedication of our multidisciplinary team of Dr. Vigneswaran K, Senior Consultant Anaesthesiologist and Dr. D Sivaraman Pediatric Intensivist, we are able to effectively treat this condition using minimally invasive procedure. The Hybrid Cath Lab in the hospital also plays an important role in performing complex procedures with high precision and safety.”
