“El Patrón” is already in Mexico to face charges for the attack against Ciro Gómez Leyva

MEXICO CITY (apro).- Armando Escárcega Valdez or Armando Escárcega Saldaña, alias “El Patrón” or “El Jefe”, identified as the one who allegedly ordered the attack against journalist Ciro Gómez Leyva, in 2022, was extradited from the United States to Mexico to be presented tonight at a hearing at the North Prison.

The journalist himself reported that “El Patrón” will face charges of criminal association and attempted murder for the attack against him.

In December, Process published that, according to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), the Mexican government sent all the necessary documentation to the United States authorities regarding the extradition order that exists for the case of the radio and television host.

“El Patrón” was arrested in October 2023 in Delano, California, in the United States, reported the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Last February, a federal judge sentenced four women to three years, 11 months and 16 days in prison after pleading guilty to criminal association and having ties to the gang that attacked the journalist.

Jaqueline Calzada, Daniela Amairani Salgado, Elizabeth Ramírez and Leslie Gómez Jaramillo, admitted their guilt within the framework of an abbreviated procedure through which Judge Edmundo Manuel Perrusquia Cabañas also imposed a fine of 10,270 pesos on each of them.

The four will serve their sentence on conditional release, so they are prohibited from approaching the journalist’s workplace, appearing to sign periodically, among other precautionary measures.

According to the FGR, the gang to which these people allegedly belong is led by “El Patrón.”
