At least eight people are dead and four are missing after a shipwreck that occurred on Monday afternoon in the Falkland Islands.
Eight crew members have lost their lives in the fishing boat accident ‘Argos Georgia’That sank in the Falkland Islands As of Monday, five people are still missing and fourteen have been rescued alive. This information has been provided by the maritime authority of the Falklands and communicated by the Government Delegation in Galicia, Spain.
According to the information provided by Salvage of Malvinas to the Spanish authorities, six of the ten Spanish crew members have been rescued alive, two have died from the towns of Vigo and Baionaand two others are still missing. All survivors are reported to be in good health, with only minor injuries and ailments reported.

For his part, the Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, personally met with the families of the crew members of the fishing boat ‘Argos Georgia’ to inform them of the tragic accident. During these conversations, Blanco expressed his unconditional support and made himself available to the families for any need they might have in these difficult times. In addition, he promised to keep them informed of any new developments that arise during the course of the investigation and rescue operations.
On the other hand, the information that has been transferred by the maritime authorities of Malvinas to the Spanish authorities, the fishing boat ‘Puerto Toro’ has recovered two bodies and the ‘Robin M. Lee’, based in Cangas, has rescued a survivor and a lifeless body.
Also, on Monday afternoon, the Maritime Authority of the Falkland Islands received an urgent communication informing that the fishing boat ‘Argos Georgia’with twenty-seven people on board, had requested immediate assistance. The emergency occurred approximately two hundred nautical miles east of Stanleythe capital of the Falkland Islands and after receiving the distress signal, the maritime authorities quickly mobilized the necessary resources to go to the scene of the incident.
