Today concrete blocks were placed in front of the entrance to Efteling. The amusement park is taking these measures after a motorist entered the entrance building yesterday. “Now it was a false alarm, but we are erring on the side of caution.”
The driver, a 25-year-old Tilburger, drove near bushes and poles at the place where tickets are checked. Nobody was injured. A police saliva test revealed that the man was under the influence of drugs.
A spokesperson for Efteling told Omroep Brabant yesterday that employees and visitors were very shocked by the action, but that the man meant no harm. “He didn’t come fast, but slowly. He probably just wanted to park as close to the entrance as possible.”
The police did not arrest the man. However, his license was revoked and he received a complaint. “We didn’t see him driving, but everything showed that he was confused. There were no malicious intentions behind this,” a police spokesperson told the regional broadcaster yesterday.
“Certain for the uncertain”
The amusement park believes the incident is not a cause for panic. The measures are intended to reassure visitors. “It should be a fun, carefree day. It was a false alarm, but we are err on the side of caution,” a spokesperson told Omroep Brabant.
Efteling does not yet know exactly how long this situation will last. But the amusement park hopes to spruce up the concrete blocks soon. “With convenient concrete blocks,” says a spokesperson.
