Effective collaborator lied to embarrass Patricia Benavides

The smear campaign against Patricia Benavides to remove her from the Attorney General’s Office is beginning to collapse, and official documentation leaves the statements of Jaime Villanueva, an effective collaborator of the Prosecutor’s Office, regarding the fact that the suspended Prosecutor of the Nation would have collected or demanded bribes of S/ 1 million in exchange for million-dollar purchases at the Public Ministry. This could land the would-be effective collaborator in pretrial detention for lying.

The philosopher had mentioned to the Special Team led by Marita Barreto that there were corrupt maneuvers for the process “Implementation of the main Data Center and Contingency Data Center of the Public Ministry.”

According to his testimony, an unsuccessful attempt was made to benefit the businessman Giancarlo Valer Enciso, with the purchase of computers for 3,451,769.31 soles. However, his claim that in October 2023 Benavides received 30,000 soles that he used in an operation for his son is left unfounded by a document from the San Pablo de Surco Clinic.

“He has been treated for an emergency in the month of September 2023 (…) using his EPS Rímac insurance with 100% accident coverage,” indicates the document signed by Javier Ríos Aida, manager of the hospital.

Jorge del Castillo, a member of the legal staff defending Benavides, explained that what Villanueva said had no basis from the beginning.

“At the Inter-American Development Bank, the IDB, an international public tender was opened for the purchase of the Data Center, but it turns out that there was a complaint about the incompatibility of an official from the Qualifying Commission and the process was truncated. “How could Dr. Benavides have influenced an international public tender,” she questioned.

Regarding the other process mentioned by the philosopher, the former Apra congressman also mentioned that this was carried out entirely by the computerized system of Perú Compras (dependency of the Ministry of Economy).

“It happens like this: I want to buy so many computers and I log into the system and the computer processes everything. There is practically no participation of human beings. The request is made to Perú Compras, which identifies what, let’s say, applicable technologies, and from there invites companies interested in proposing their prices.

A computer processes the factors, and produces a result,” Del Castillo explained about the process for 4,070,666.87 soles.

To date, the call is still open. For the EFICCOP, it would be seeking that “the winning company is the one that has been claimed in advance, which is the company linked to Giancarlo Valer Enciso”, that is, the bidding has not been completed, but Benavides is already accused of agreeing to receive a bribe from a process that has not occurred.
