Ecuador must apologize and respect asylum: Sheinbaum

The government of Ecuador authorized the incursion of elements of the armed forces into the Mexican Embassy in that country to arrest the former Ecuadorian vice president, Jorge Glas.

“What Ecuador did with Mexico is not minor. So, it is not a matter of sitting down and talking, because what Mexico is asking for in this lawsuit is, on the one hand, an apology and reparation for the damage, and on the other hand, the case of the vice president, because he has the right to asylum. in Mexico; because the right to asylum is provided by the country that is giving you the right to asylum (in this case Mexico),” Sheinbaum pointed out.

The virtual president-elect stressed that Ecuador must comply with International Law, and recalled that Mexico requested the expulsion of international organizations from that country.

“There is a trial, that trial has to be resolved. If Ecuador assumes what Mexico is asking for in that trial, then it is already different, but everything that Mexico is proposing would have to be fulfilled. “They are talking about a public apology and the issue of asylum,” Sheinbaum said.
