The government predicts that the decline in inflation will begin in the summer months. However, May inflation, which will be announced in the first week of June, is expected to peak. According to economists, annual inflation will approach 75 percent in May. The monthly increase is expected to be 3.04 percent.
Anadolu Agency’s expectation survey regarding May inflation data, which will be announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) on Monday, June 3, was announced today. 15 economists participated in the survey. Accordingly, the average inflation expectations of economists in May was 3.04 percent. Inflation expectations of the economists participating in the survey for May ranged from a minimum of 2.85 percent to a maximum of 3.50 percent.
According to the average inflation expectations of economists for May, annual inflation, which was 69.80 percent in the previous month, is expected to rise to 74.89 percent.
On the other hand, economists’ inflation expectation for the end of 2024 was 43.95 in May. Consumer Price Index increased by 3.18 percent in April.

GOVERNMENT’S INFLATION EXPECTATION
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek said that they predicted that inflation would peak in May due to the base effect, but that it would decrease very quickly in the following months. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz noted that there will be significant decreases in inflation in the second half of the year. Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan stated at the beginning of this month that they increased the year-end inflation forecast from 36 percent to 38 percent.
