Within the scope of the TURKEY Disaster Response Plan, the drill in Yalova, which was among the 5 provinces affected by the 6.7 magnitude earthquake whose epicenter was Bursa, was as realistic as the real thing. Governor Hülya Kaya said that such a comprehensive exercise was carried out in the city for the first time and said, “Our main goal is to see on the field how applicable the plan we have made here is. In Yalova, within the scope of the Turkey Disaster Response Plan, ‘Bursa Regional Exercise’ was carried out by AFAD Presidency, in real time and with field extension, for 24 hours. In this context, in accordance with the scenario, in the 6.7 magnitude earthquake, whose epicenter was Gemlik, a drill was held with all relevant institutions and organizations in the city, in accordance with the Turkey Disaster Response Plan. With the drill starting at 09.30 in the morning with the sound of a siren, Governor Hülya Kaya and the directors of all relevant institutions came to the 112 Disaster and Emergency Coordination Center and held a meeting. Governor Kaya continued the exercise by planning in line with the information he received from the managers. Following the meeting held at the coordination center following the earthquake that occurred at 09.30 in accordance with the scenario, according to the first data as of 09.45, a total of 72 reinforced concrete buildings, 33 in the city center, 26 in Armutlu district, 4 in Termal district, 4 in Çınarcık district and 5 in Çiftlikköy district. collapsed. It was determined that 335 citizens lived in the collapsed buildings. While search-rescue and medical teams were dispatched to 2 of the 33 collapsed buildings in the city center, as of the moment the earthquake occurred, 6 teams including police, gendarmerie, AFAD and fire brigade personnel were in the city center, 2 teams in Altınova, 2 teams in Çiflikköy, A total of 9 teams, including 1 team in Termal, 2 teams in Armutlu, and 2 teams in Çınarcık, started field analysis work.

Making a statement about the drill, Governor Hülya Kaya said, “Today, we are carrying out the drill of the 6.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Bursa. This is the first time such a comprehensive drill was held in Yalova. Upon receiving the news at 09.30 in the morning, we came to the Disaster Coordination Center. We and our colleagues We gathered at the center within 7 minutes and informed our teammates. According to the written scenario, it was determined that 72 buildings were damaged. Our police, gendarmerie, fire brigade and search and rescue teams immediately went to the field. “After observing it, he reported it to us. Then, we identified the buildings that needed urgent intervention. We will now direct search and rescue teams to these places,” he said.

‘RECOGNIZING MISTAKES AFTER EXPERIENCED BY AN EARTHQUAKE COSTS PEOPLE’S LIVES’

Stating that not seeing mistakes after the earthquake will cost human lives, Governor Kaya pointed out that precautions should be taken before the disaster and touched upon the importance of the drill and said:

“Our main goal is to see on the field how feasible the plan we have made here is. With this work we have done, we see where there are mistakes and where we need to make more reinforcements. This exercise is carried out not only here, but also in Bursa, Kocaeli, and Istanbul. From here It turns out that if we were affected by this earthquake, the provinces around us were also affected. We are also aware that the teams that will come to help us will not be from the surrounding provinces. Therefore, we expect aid to come from the 10 matching provinces and we will quickly identify the damage caused by the earthquake and coordinate it with AFAD. We want to be.”
