Earth Detected Technically Not Circling the Sun Currently

LONDON – Earth not technically a completely accurate orbit of the Sun. The explanation lies in the concept of the barycenter, which is the point around which two objects orbiting each other rotate.

Even though the Sun has a much greater mass than the planets in the Solar System, gravity works both ways.

This means that the Earth is not only pulled by the Sun, but the Earth also pulls the Sun with a smaller gravitational force.

According to Kepler’s Third Law, the masses of two objects orbiting each other determine the orbital parameters and position of the barycenter.

“An example of a small star orbiting around a more massive star. Both stars actually revolve around the same center of mass, called the barycenter. ” wrote Kepler’s Third Law theory as reported by IFL Science, Tuesday (25/6/2024).

Smaller stars orbiting larger stars actually revolve around a common center of mass, called the barycenter. This applies to all orbiting objects, regardless of their mass and size.

In the case of the Solar System, we often say that the planets orbit the Sun.

However, the barycenter of the Solar System is usually located near the Sun, because the Sun has a much greater mass.

However, due to the gravitational influence of gas giants such as Jupiter and Saturn, the barycenter is not always inside the Sun.
