Autoimmune disease is a condition in which the immune system mistakenly damages healthy cells in your body. Several symptoms can be seen, including allergies to skin problems.
Autoimmune is also included in chronic diseases. For this reason, it is important to detect it early so that it can be treated immediately by medical personnel.
Dr. Dr. Windy Keumala Budianti, Sp.DVE, Subsp. DAl, Dermato Allergo Immunology Subspecialist, revealed the importance of patients detecting autoimmune disease early to prevent severity. One way is to pay attention to every symptom, including mild conditions.
“Sometimes we like to ignore slight or mild symptoms but they persist. “In fact, that is one of the signs or symptoms of autoimmune disease,” said Dr. Windy at the Immuno Derma clinic, Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, Saturday (8/6/2024).
Doctor Windy explained that patients often ignore these minor symptoms. He revealed that 40%-50% of autoimmune patients usually start with symptoms of a rash like allergies on the skin.
Seeing mild symptoms, patients are sometimes reluctant to consult them. In fact, if autoimmune disease is treated early, it can prevent symptoms from getting worse until comorbid diseases arise.
“It’s true that if (autoimmune disease) is caught from the start, we can prevent it. “If left untreated, it can cause joint pain, affecting the heart and blood vessels,” he explained.
For this reason, Dr. Windy invites people to understand their body’s condition by going to an autoimmune clinic, especially if they have similar symptoms. Doctor Windy explained that small symptoms that arise and occur frequently are also a sign that someone should have their health checked.
“If you experience mild but recurring disorders, you should immediately see a doctor so that we know whether this is the start of an autoimmune condition or a simple allergy,” he said.
