Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam has announced that Tk 20 crore will be allocated to fulfill the promises of the members of parliament for the development of their respective areas.

The minister gave this information in response to Jatiya Party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu’s supplementary question during the Jatiya Sangsad question and answer session on Sunday (February 18). Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.

Earlier, Chunnu asked in his supplementary question—MPs make election promises. Moreover, earlier there was a lump sum allocation for the MPs for the development of the area. Now the new government, will the government allocate the MPs for the development of their respective areas during this government?

In response to this, Local Government Minister Tajul Islam said, ‘Members of Parliament make many promises to the people for the development of their respective areas, this is normal. As much as the interest of the MPs to fulfill those promises, the Prime Minister has realized the matter very sincerely and has already formulated a scheme to give 20 crore rupees to each MP’s constituency for a period of five years. It’s ongoing. The Minister said that once this project is completed or to fulfill the promises and development of the constituencies of the MPs, it will be considered to take up a new project.
