The hackers who penetrated the computer systems of the Duvel-Moortgat brewery initially demanded more than half a million dollars in ransom to prevent the stolen data from being distributed. This is reported by Het Laatste Nieuws. Although that amount is still subject to negotiation, it sounds.

“I cannot give the exact amount, because that depends on the negotiations of our subcontractor,” said a member of the hacker collective ‘Stormous’. “And the negotiations are tailored to the exact damage caused to the victim by the attack. But the amount we demanded at the start is higher than 500,000 dollars (approximately 456,000 euros, ed.).”

The group already threatened on Friday to leak a large amount of data about the company next week – sooner than first planned. A countdown clock on the hacker group’s website initially stated that the brewery had two weeks to pay the ransom. However, according to the hacker collective, there has still been no contact with the Duvel management. This apparently frustrates the hackers, so they increase the pressure on the brewery group.

On Wednesday it was announced that the Moortgat brewery, the company behind Duvel, among others, had been hacked, causing production to be temporarily halted. It has now been restarted.
