Durango bets on electric transportation

The Government of the State of Durango seeks the modernization of public transportation in the entity and will bet on electromobility. It already works hand in hand with the concessionaires, with whom it has established agreements and extensions to be able to change units, this as part of the modifications contemplated in the Transportation Law.

“The State Transportation Law was just approved a short time ago, based on this regulation they are rearranging the administrative areas, the units, and then comes the complete review; we are now in an agreement with the main representatives of unions and organizations of transporters because we want to renew the vehicle fleet as much as possible so that they are in accordance with the law,” explained the Undersecretary of Government for La Laguna, Raúl Meraz.

For his part, the now head of the Foreign Investment Attraction Unit to the State of Durango, Arturo Ortiz Galán, announced that it will be next week, June 17, when representatives of an electric bus manufacturing company will visit.

Remember that during his tour of China in 2024, Governor Esteban Villegas signed a letter of intent with the Yutong company, considered the largest truck manufacturing company in the world, especially public transport units, cargo, garbage collectors and further.

During his presentation in May, the president explained that the letter of intent was signed in two ways, the first to achieve the establishment of an assembly plant in the entity and the second, to achieve the change in public transportation.

“That we begin to change public transportation for electric throughout the state… of course we have to talk about it with the concessionaires, find a form of financing, how the government gets involved, how they get involved…”, was what the president presented in press conference about the results of his tour, before the La Laguna media.

In that sense, Ortiz Galán said that they are in negotiations, without providing the name of the company, with the intention of establishing their assembly plant in the state and initially acquiring 1,700 trucks for public transportation, for the dealers in both La Lagoon like the capital.

“And it is changing it to electromobility and it is a challenge that we are already working on because we have to adapt the city with the charging infrastructure, with the road infrastructure,” the official acknowledged.

On the issue of dealers, Raúl Meraz said that by June he had already spoken with all of them. “With some, terms and dates have already been established, I cannot give a specific one because some depend on the number of units they have for an extension… the truth is that we want there to be a group of wills, this is not done with pressure, it is not done because of pressure from authority but rather it is done with the conviction that if they improve their units they will have more users requesting their services.
