The Central Reserve Bank (BCR) advances in the Population and Housing Census and has covered territory in the districts of Santa Rosa de Lima, municipality of La Unión Norte; San Ildefonso, in San Vicente Norte; Santiago Texacuangos, from San Salvador Sur; Conchagüita, Conchagua district, in La Unión Sur; San Dionisio, in East Usulután; Chapeltique, San Miguel Norte; Concepción Oratory, in Cuscatlán Norte, and in some areas of San Salvador. At the end of the survey, each registered household receives a sticker that certifies its participation.
Thousands of trained census takers and supervisors have been carrying out a massive deployment throughout El Salvador since May 2 to collect information; In a cordial and pleasant manner they visit house by house to obtain the essential data for emptying the registration.
BCR authorities indicated that participation in the 2024 Population and Housing Census is essential to guarantee that communities subsequently receive the resources and services they deserve. The project seeks to understand how Salvadorans live, what their main needs are, and to have inputs to formulate more effective public policies. The census is part of the function of generating basic statistics and data that President Nayib Bukele delegated to the BCR since August 2022.
According to the bank, the census is important because since it has not been carried out for 17 years there is no reliable information on the number of inhabitants and their living conditions. Data collection is 100% digital, which is made possible by the cartographic update that was developed last year.
The personnel deployment is made up of more than 10,000 census takers, supervisors and trainers, who will work hard for two and a half months to collect and process information.
