NintendoSwitch At the end of his life, he got his own flash cart, a device that allows you to run copies of games on unmodified consoles by imitating the original media with a given title. MiG switchas this accessory is called, it is used for this purpose a microSD card with game data that we ourselves previously copied using a special reader.
MiG Switch: A new way to pirate games on Switch
The ability to run non-original games on Nintendo Switch is nothing new (at all!), but MiG Switch has several interesting features that distinguish it from currently available solutions. Above all works with any console version and does not require any additional modifications neither at the system level nor in the hardware itself. Also, when you make a copy of the cartridge with it not only the data necessary for the game is copied, but also the unique identifier of a particular copy of the game. In this way we obtain a perfect clone of the game we own, which in theory not even Nintendo will be able to identify and which we should be able to use during online games without fear of being banned.
On the one hand, the MiG Switch looks like this an ideal tool for those who want to protect their original copies of games without risking a ban and enjoy them without the risk of damaging or losing the original media. We could support something similar ourselves. Unfortunately there is also the other side of the coin and this could prove to be a real nightmare for every Switch owner, even if he has never heard of MiG Switch or even thought about piracy and modifying his console.
Banned for buying a used game? Yes, and it’s not a joke
I said that the new flash cartridge copies games along with the unique identifier of a particular cartridge. For people who create backups of their games, this is quite effective protection. For the rest, this poses a serious threat because opens the door to a situation where a console user could be banned and completely lose access to online features (including purchased games and hardware upgrade options), although he himself has done nothing wrong. It is sufficient for the person who previously owned a particular copy of the game to create a copy of it and then put it into circulation, for example by selling it as used or returning it to the person from whom he or she borrowed it. If such a pirate and a new owner of the cartridge decide to play a certain title at the same time, Nintendo will be able to identify that a license violation has occurred because two copies of the same ID will be in use. Regardless of how you look at the matter, it is piracy and will most likely lead to a ban, but for whom?
And this is the great unknown that Switch owners will have to face. Unfortunately, since it is impossible to determine which user owned the actual cartridge, everyone involved will likely receive a ban. This in turn means this buying a used game through OLX or at a gallery booth will suddenly turn into Russian roulette, where we risk not only drowning a hundred or two, but Indeed the entire console.
In short, if the MiG Switch proves popular enough, its simple appearance on the market will follow it has the potential to completely kill the used Switch game market. Unless Nintendo decides to turn a blind eye to duplicate IDs so as not to risk banning honest users. It would be nice, but personally I don’t want to believe it, after all we are talking about Nintendo.
I wait: Nintendo Switch 2 will be more expensive. Same as games
I wait: There will be no dolphin on Steam. It’s Nintendo’s fault
