The Minister of Transportation, Juan Carlos Muñoz, presented the new route 542 in which will reuse the double-decker buses that were used in the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games and He will begin his duties on February 26.
This new RED route will cross eight communes of the Metropolitan Region as Cerro Navia, Quinta Normal, Recoleta, Santiago, Providencia, Las Condes, Vitacura and Lo Barnechea.
The new service 542 will cross towards the east through Salvador Gutiérrez, Mapocho Avenue, through the Cal y Canto Metro, Santa María Avenue, Vitacura Avenue and Tabancura.
Meanwhile, heading towards Cerro Navia you will pass through Vitacura Avenue, Bellavista, the Cal y Canto Metro, Salvador Gutiérrez, the Félix Bulnes Hospital and Rodoviario Street.

According to the head of the transportation portfolio, he noted that “Part of the fleet of this service is the fleet that was previously being used for service 520 that went to the National Stadium. This route is transferred to this service that we believe is more suitable for this type of fleet.”
These buses have air conditioning, Wifi and USB ports To charge cell phones inside the machine, they have a capacity of 112 people, of which 69 can be seated.
In addition, Minister Juan Carlos Muñoz indicated that the new route will circulate mainly during peak timeswhile single-decker buses will circulate during off-peak hours.
