Former Republican President Donald Trump announced his running mate and vice presidential candidate in his campaign for a second term as President of the United States. This was done through his social network Truth Social.
The chosen one was Ohio Senator JD Vance.
This Monday also marked the start of the Republican National Convention taking place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The votes of state delegates who in total supported Trump to be officially designated as the presidential candidate prior to the elections next November were announced.
U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson gave the floor to state representatives who highlighted Trump’s achievements and acknowledged that he has their support to run for president again.
Current senator for the state of Ohio, he enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating from high school where he was deployed in Iraq during the invasion of the country. When he returned he entered the Ohio State University where he studied a bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy in 2009. He then studied at Yale Law School where he obtained his law degree in 2013.
After graduating, he worked at the multinational firm Sidley Austin LLP and investment firms. In 2016, he published a book of his memoirs entitled Hibilly Elegy, translated in Mexico as “Hillbilly, una elegía rural” (Hillbilly, a rural elegy), which became a hit during the US presidential elections that year.
The book addresses his experience growing up as a poor white man in Ohio. It touches on issues of substance abuse and domestic violence.
Although he was critical of Donald Trump at the beginning of his political career in 2016, after entering the race for a seat in the Senate he apologized for his comments and joined the former president’s MAGA political movement. With this, he won the primary and then the seat.
